Weekend Retreat Director
Keegan Callahan has worked as a counselor at Camp Olympia since 2016 and held different leadership positions since. He started this past fall, 2019, as an intern and quickly found himself in the role of Full-Time Assistant Director and could not be happier about the transition – this is his dream job! In the summer, Keegan oversees our Waterfront as well as most of our land activities. During the school year, he helps run weekends, recruits our O-mazing summer staff, and contacts leads as well as heads up tours for prospective campers!
Keegan, while born in Colorado, is a proud Texan and Austinite. As a child, he attended camp in the Hill Country, but once school sports entered the mix, they quickly took over his life. He grew up running cross country and track which is what led him back to Colorado to attend college in Durango at Fort Lew College. He took advantage of playing in the winter wonderland for four-years and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in History in 2019.
If you were to ask Keegan’s family and friends before college what he would have done, almost all of them would have said become a teacher. After spending just one summer at Olympia, Keegan saw the opportunity to teach kids in a different, more relaxed environment. His friends in Colorado soon found out that if he started to talk about Camp, it would not be a brief conversation and he eventually became “that summer camp guy”. The fresh air and lack of standardized testing was all it took and he quickly found himself planning out his life to where he could spend as much time at Olympia as possible, with a new dream job in mind.
When Keegan is not at work, you can find him exploring our National Parks, talking about boring history, or attempting to whoop counselors in a game of soccer. He also loves to run REALLY long distances…for fun.
If you have questions or need to contact Keegan, send him an email or give him a call at 936-594-2541.
